Although health insurance is not mandatory for students, some institutions may require you to purchase accident, hospitalization, medical expenses (accident and non-accident) and evacuation coverage before you begin your study in Hong Kong.

If you do not purchase any insurance before coming to Hong Kong, some institutions provide group plans for you to enrol, but the plans usually provide only minimal and basic coverage and do not include medical and health insurance. You may check with the Student Affairs Office or International Office of the institution(s) you intend to apply for.

In any case, we strongly advise you to make your own insurance arrangements throughout the entire period of your studies in Hong Kong. Except the basic package, you may opt for additional protection at your own discretion.

If you plan to travel outside Hong Kong, you should make sure that your existing insurance policy covers your destination. Otherwise, you are advised to buy additional travel insurance before your trip.
